Tuna:
Last week we had an challenge where you go out during the week and find a eel bring it in on either Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Like all challenges there are rules. So the rules for this competition was that it was only suppose to be short fin, gutted, and cleaned. The tuna was not to be looked at...so what they done with the tuna was they smoked up for the parents on Matariki Whanau Day.
Takakau:
For the takakau we had to be creative and bake the takakau how ever we wanted. The takakau didn't have much rules except for, it had to be brought on the Matariki Whanau Day, it had to be named so that the teacher's knew who it belonged to, and the container it was in had to be named as well.
I sadly didn't apply in these competition but here are some photos of other people in the competition.
Kia ora Jacquelyn my name is Angela I am a year 6 student and I go to Paihia School. I really enjoyed reading your post about Tuna and Takakau. It seemed really cool what you’s done and had for Matariki Whanau day. It was really cool that you’s went out and found an eel to bring it on Monday Tuesday or Wednesday. I thought that was a cool challenge.. Do you do this every Matariki?. For Matariki some of our School wakes up at 6:00am in the morning, head to the school, meet all together go to the wharf and look at the Matariki stars. After we have seen the stars we head back to school and have a big breakfast. Later on in the day we do Matariki Activities or go to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds.
