We have begun Jump Start for our Year 11 classes, and oh how it’s been eventful. For now I’ll be reflecting on my PE lessons. I’ve fortunately been chosen for Level 1 PE with our teacher Whaea Ruth and already PE has kicked off starting with our Renegade Hockey unit. To start we’ve mainly done peer coaching and learning the basic skills that we would need to play this sport. We’ve touched on passing, tackling, a mid - air - trap, and also flicking the ball when being defended. I’ve mainly struggled with the mid - air - trap due to the lack of balance and control I have with the stick, but with a Growth Mindset I am determined to crack it by the end of our unit. Other than learning basic skills, we have also been learning about each other which has been the most enjoyable for me. Considering PE is no longer mandatory in Year 11 our class is now a combination of those willing to take PE in the whole of our year group, which means new people to get to know. In these PE lessons we have been pushed to partner up with someone from the opposite form class so that we are getting to mix and mingle and our games, for me, have really helped with that. From one game I could tell that everyone in our class has the same drive and passion for sports to be better and always give a 100% because not once did I see a single person not being involved or just standing to just stand. That excites me for the future progression of our PE class in 2022, and I hope this energy keeps up.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your very positive reflection about your first week in Jump Start PHE. It is good for me to know you are enjoying learning with a new group of peers who will be your 'fellow travellers' in the pursuit of knowledge, skills and growth next year. It's also great to see that you continue to apply Growth Mindset to take on new challenges. I really enjoy your candid opinions and the vocabulary you use to express them. Haere tonu Jacque.
