Comparing Two Human Right Declarations:

Our topic for Term 1 is Human Rights. Our activity for the past two lessons has been about ‘Comparing Two Human Right Declarations. The two examples we were given to use were the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and The Treaty Of Waitangi. We were given the task list down the similarities and differences.

One of the similarities that I identified between the two articles is ‘A fair and free world’. In terms of UDHR is Article 1 ‘We are all born in a free and equal world’ which basically says that we all have our own rights and should be treated fairly under any circumstance. How this shows in the Treaty of Waitangi is when the Queen Of England declares that she will extend her royal protection overall to New Zealand. She also equally gives the rights of the England citizens to us as well.

On the other hand we have the difference being the amount of countries they apply to. As we know the Treaty of Waitangi is known to be an agreement piece consisting of 3 articles that connects Aotearoa to England. The UDHR applies as it says in its name ‘Universally’ to 193 countries.

In closing, here is what we’ve been doing in SST for 10T, I hope you enjoy and have learned a little more about The Treaty of Waitangi and The UDHR.
